QWhat do guests need to play?
You need a charged smartphone with an active internet connection (cellular or Wi-Fi). No app store download or special equipment is required.
QIs the experience self-guided?
Yes! El Pirata is 100% self-guided. You can start whenever you like, pause at any cafe, plaza, or park along the route, and proceed at your crew's own pace.
QDoes the route enter private buildings or paid sites?
No. The route uses public landmark exteriors across Old San Juan. All witness marks and clues are accessible from public plazas, sidewalks, and streets.
QAre narration and historical information included?
Yes! The game offers an optional spoken introduction and narration, along with genuine historical information and local traditions for each landmark.
QCan people play remotely?
Yes. Every landmark arrival can be confirmed manually in-game without physical location tracking, so a crew can experience the mystery from anywhere. A crew pass is required to begin.
QWhat safety precautions should walkers keep in mind?
Old San Juan streets feature historic blue cobblestones (adoquines) that can be uneven. Please watch for vehicular traffic on narrow roads and stay aware of your surroundings while looking at your phone screen.
QAre the characters real historical figures?
No. The characters—including Captain Tomás Vega, Governor Alonso Varela, Inés Rivera, Sergeant Rafael Córdova, and Marisol de la Cruz—and the mystery narrative are entirely fictional. The six landmarks are real historic places in Old San Juan.
